In our search for family oriented trail horses, we found the North American Curly Horse. Since we deal with the public so much, we were intrigued by these horses being hypo-allergenic. The possibility of being able to share horses with people having allergies was very thrilling to us. Then to meet these horses and discover their wonderful personalities and easy going temperments, sold us on the breed.
Pat Wilson of WW Farm, a Curly breeder, invited us to her farm. Dean and I were amazed by her horses' beauty and character. There we stood in the middle of a field, surrounded by youngsters that wanted to be loved on; they investigated us without pushing or fighting! What a change from the stand-offish horses we had been meeting. Then and there, we knew what direction our farm was going to take.
We soon made arrangements to bring home two mares, one with a colt at her side. Dean and I were amazed at how easy it was to handle the foal and there was no fussing at weaning time. Dean thought training a foal would be about the same as woking with a 4-H steer. I knew it would be easier than that, but I did not realized how eager the colt (Tomson) would be to please his people. We do not know where Tomson fits into our farm, but he has a forever home with us!
Curly Horse Country My favorite Curly site is Curly Horse Country. It is always current and easy to navigate. There is tons of infomation about the Curly Horses. Denise Conroy does a wonderful job with site.
